Mangalore:, Aug 19: To celebrate the 63rd Independence Day in a befitting manner, The Yenepoya School, in association with the Centre for Integrated Learning, felicitated Kargil War hero and Vir Chakra awardee, Subedar Joginder Singh Yadav, at the school premises in the outskirts of the city.

The children of the school, who had assembled for the hoisting of the tri-colour, were excited to see a man in army uniform amidst them. Their excitement touched its peak, when they were informed that here was a hero of the Kargil War, who had fought the  Pakistani army infiltrators, who had clandestinely occupied the Indian positions, head on. Joginder, in his typical Hindi accent, explained the incident in which, he along with a couple of his higher officers and jawans, strategically accomplished a rather daunting task of capturing one of the significant peaks in the Batalik sector from the Pakistani soldiers, rolling the heads of about 13 soldiers and two officers in the bargain.

To add glitter to the show, an enthralling cultural programme was presented by over 400 children of The Yenepoya School.

Earlier, the flag hoisting was performed by retired Lt Col Sureesh Kumar. Managing director of the The Yenepoya school, Farhaad Yenepoya, executive director of the Centre for Integrated Learning, Sachitha Nandagopal, principal C K Manjunath among others, were present.
