Mangalore, Aug 22: A merchant was stabbed near the Central Market in the city, just opposite the police outpost near Kalpana Sweets stall, on the night of Friday August 21, by four unidentified persons. Ibrahim (30), who was seriously injured in the incident, is being treated in the intensive care unit of a private hospital here.

The incident occurred in the heart of the city, even when the ban order imposed by the district administration is in force and the police personnel have been keeping a tight vigil. Ibrahim, who runs a vegetable shop opposite Roopavani Talkies near the spot where the incident took place, was going home at about 8.30 pm on his motor bike, when four strangers stopped him near Kalpana Sweets and escaped after stabbing his back with sharp weapons. The motor bike of Ibrahim was found lying at the spot of the incident, and the Bunder station policemen have taken it to the police station.

As the district administration has asked all business establishments in the city to be closed by 8 pm, Ibrahim closed his shop early and was going home. The accused reportedly ran towards Bibi Alabi Road after stabbing Ibrahim.

It is said, an attempt to assault an auto rickshaw driver took place late night on Friday, near the Central Railway Station here. It is said, the alert driver succeeded in  anticipating the attack and escaping unhurt.

In countries like Middle-east all community people live together peacefully, there are no such incidents. If we can live peacefully there why cant we live in our native place, killing people only because they belong to certain community is blind hit, those criminals regret their mistake when they get similar or severe punishment when the justice is made by Almighty God either here or here after, there is no escape

I have a bad feeling that the administration along with the police are not doing their job. Specially with religious festivals around the corner, the 8 pm ban and the recent peaceful committee meetings. Mangalore was the most peaceful place in the whole of India. But it is slowly turning into a Gujarat.

Incidents like communal harmony, distroying peace...etc are politically motivated with full back-up and support, you have to remember.. there nothing good things going to happens unless current administration impose the law equal to everybody to save you, your family, kids, neighbours.. and and it is a duty for politicians to take care thier citizens after taking your votes.. If not learn from your mistakes when you suffer..

Mr. Thilak, please don''t raise the issue of minority or any other religion. Native people of mangalore always wants peace . Everyone wants to celebrate the festivals of the seasons whether it''s a hindu, muslim or christisn. We love our mangalore. It''s only some miscreants who do these job. From the incidents occured, you can see these people are attacking innocent people...We need to stop this and help administration to avoid such incidents occuring.

A series of assault by unidentified men with the same modus operandi since last 4-5 days in Mangalore points towards a larger conspiracy of vested interests to disrupt peace and harmony. More surprisingly police not yet succeeded in nabbing the culprits. I wish its no too late.

this is really peace spoiling event, all community civilians are in the mood of welcoming peaceful festival season, if such events happens repeatedly that too near police out post means our district administration has to be more vigilant and should not bend for any political leaders words, they come and go but we have to live here, for us no other way to go, all community leaders has to join hand to curb this type of evens,

Its really unfortunate that even after the administration has imposed a ban after 8:00 this incident happened. The miscreants should be brought to big and given severe punishment. That is the only way to restore peace in Mangalore.
