Upper Bhadra project likely to get national project status soon: CM

Hosadurga, Chitradurga, Oct 22: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who arrived at the Hosadurga Sports Stadium Helipad in Chitradurga on Saturday, said the Upper Bhadra irrigation project has already been cleared by the Union Water Resources Department PIB and was likely to get approved by the Union Cabinet soon to become the first national irrigation project to be implemented,

Speaking to media persons at the Hosadurga helipad, the Chief Minister said the State Government has already requested the Union Jal Shakti Minister to ensure that the Union Cabinet clears the project soon so as to commence work.

``We expect Central funding after the Upper Bhadra Project is approved as the national irrigation project,’’ he said.,

Bommai said the State Government will take steps to prevail upon the Centre to take up the Tumkur-Davangere rail line via Chitradurga. The land acquisition process for the project would be completed soon, he said making it clear that the government was very keen on development of the entire region.

The Chief Minister later participated in the Golden Jubilee programme of the Hosadurga court.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Agriculture Minister B C Patil, MLA Goolihatti Sshekar and Justices A S Bopanna, Prasanna B Varale, S Sunil Dutt Yadav, Ashok S Kinagi, Jyothi Moolimani, G Basavaraju, H Bellappa and others attended the programme.
