Udupi: Women form formidable force in India’s co-operative movement – Dr Rajendra Kumar

Udupi, Nov  15:  Dakshina Kannada District Central Co-operative Bank Mangaluru chairman M N Rajendra Kumar said a large number of women are part of the co-operative sector and form a formidable force as they have strengthened the movement in the country.

Addressing the 69th All India Conference at Uchila after inaugurating the co-operation week , he said the Britishers respected the sector as the movement in the country has a history of 120 years. He said it is evident going by the show of strength of the cooperatives in the coastal districts.

He said, “cooperative week is being celebrated across the state as a festival. Its objective is not only to grow the co-operative sector but also to bring more people into its fold.”

Dr Kumar said the co-operative sector should be further strengthened by participating in the state-level cooperative festival that is being held in Mangaluru on November 18.

Dr M N Rajendra Kumar and DCC Bank Director Devi Prasad Shetty Belapu were honoured. Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji of Pejavar Math blessed the occasion.

Presiding over the function, B Jayakara Shetty Indrali ,who was selected for the Sakaratna award said that cooperative organisations are growing unprecedentedly in Udupi district.

He said that in the coming days, a request will be submitted to the central and state governments to provide representation to the cooperative sector in the Legislative Council and in the Rajya Sabha .

Around 8000 cooperative societies participated in the programme.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Byndoor MLA Sukumar Shetty,  Yashpal A Suvarna president of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Fishery Federation, Aruna Rajendra Kumar, Vinay Kumar Sorake former secretary, Jaya C Kotyan, president of  Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, K P Suchitra Shetty, president of KMF, Director, Kaup Divakar Shetty, Dr Umesh G Joint Director of Mysore Cooperative Societies,  Lakshmi Narayana G N, Co-operative Department officer, Ashok Kumar Ballal, co-operative union vice-president, Harish B B chief executive officer and others were present.

Dr Deviprasad Shetty welcomed while Sathishchandra Shetty and Vijetha Shetty compered the programme.
