Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (MS)

Kundapur, Nov 16: Helmsman of a fishing boat lost control and the boat hit the beach at Koome under Tekkatte gram panchayat limits on the late night on Monday.

Around 1 am, the boat swayed suddenly and moved towards the beach and got stuck. The nets of traditional fishermen, who were fishing at sea shore, got damaged. As the waves in the sea were not violent, the boat did not capsize. There were five fishermen on board the boat.

Attempts to lift the boat from the area where it is stuck went in vain. The boat will be taken into sea using a speed boat when there is high tide in the sea.

Local fisherman Vishwanatha Koravadi accused that trawl fishing boats are violating the rules and are fishing on sea shores that is why this kind of mishap occurs and traditional hand net fishing fishermen are facing problems.
