Bengaluru, Nov 19: The opposition Congress party has dubbed Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai as the kingpin of the VoterGate data theft scam and demanded his resignation.

Addressing a joint news conference at the KPCC office, the AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, who is the State party in-charge, KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar, Congress Opposition leader Siddaramaiah, senior party leaders M B Patil, B Ramalinga Reddy and all Congress legislators from the city, in Bengaluru on Saturday accused the Chief Minister and ruling BJP of launching an 'Operation Cover Up' to hide the voters data theft scam.

The Bommai government and the ruling BJP has committed a grave fraud on the sanctity of the electoral process by allegedly stealing the voters data and started issuing imaginary denials and falsehoods and has misused the official government machinery and Bruhat Benghaluru Mahanagara Palike officials in its VotersGate scam.

The Congress leaders, who called on the State Election Commission Chief and submitted a memorandum on the scam, have demanded a probe by the State High Court Chief Justice to bring out the truth and sought the resignation of the Chief Minister as he is the BBMP in-charge Issuing a list of 11 questions, the Congress leaders wanted to know why an FIR is not registered against the Chief Minister, who is the BBMP in-Charge and the BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath for being directly involved in the Chilume Trust’s nefarious activities.

It is shameful and laughable that the Chief Minister, being the Bengaluru in-charge, is issuing a direction to the BBMP Chief Commissioner to register an FIR, when both persons are directly involved, the Congress leaders said and asked why an FIR is not registered against the NGO, Chilume Education and Rural Development Trust, Chilume Enterprises Pvt Ltd and DAP Hombale Pvt Ltd and their owners/directors Krishnappa, Ravikumar, Byrappa, Shruti and Narasimhamurthy Aishwarya.

Challenging the Chief Minister’s contention that there is no evidence about the Voters Data theft, the Congress leaders pointed out that the affidavit submitted by former BJP MLA Nandish Reddy that he has paid Rs 18 lakh to Chilume Trust proves the lies of the government and the ruling BJP. An impartial probe by the High Court Chief Justice is necessary to bring out how many crores of rupees had been paid to Chilume Trust and other organisations, they said.
