Mangaluru, Nov 20: The city witnessed quite an unusual evening on Saturday, November 12 at Congress Bhavan, Mallikatta.
The Special Parents' Support Group of Mangaluru led by Meena Noronha joined together with Lions and Leo clubs of Mangaluru and Leo Club - St Aloysius ITI unit and formed an initiative titled 'Mithrathva' to provide a new good experience for the specially abled kids/adults and their families with the enthralling 'The Best Buddy Programme.' Each special child/ adult was paired with a buddy from the Lions and Leo clubs.
Dr Rameela Shekhar supported Meena of the Special Parents' Support Group and started this initiative. Meena Noronha, founder of Special Parents' Support Group, Mangaluru introduced the special children as they walked the ramp holding their mothers' hands.
This was followed by pairing of buddy from Lions/Leo club with a special need child. Each buddy partnered with their alloted child by tying a friendship band who then talked, joked, sang and had a great time with each other.
And finally, the special ones and buddies had the best fun by shaking legs to the lively music as parents watched their children in awe.
Sweets were distributed to the special ones and event was concluded with refreshments.
Special Parents' Support Group thanked Dr Rameela Shekar and acknowledged her her bold initiative to bring about the concept of a 'inclusion' in Mangaluru.
