Mangaluru: Carmelite brothers celebrate 'Carmel Day'

Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 11: Carmelite theologians celebrated ‘Carmel Day', the annual day of the St Joseph's Monastery of Carmel hill on December 10 at the Infant Jesus Shrine campus.

The cultural event featured Konkani dance, music, and drama.

The guest of honor, Nellu Permannur, a well-known director and artiste lauded the efforts of young Carmelites in spreading the gospel through dance, music, and drama, where the word is being spread more powerfully than through speeches or Sunday sermons. Nellu Permannur also released a book on St Joseph written by the brothers.

The audience was enthralled by a retro-dancing performance. The brothers also demonstrated their proficiency in a variety of musical instruments. The Konkani drama ‘Zallebari zata’ penned by Fr Jocy Siddakatte OCD and directed by Manish Pinto was staged skilfully.

Fr George Santhumayor, the provincial superior of the Carmelites, was the president. Fr Charles Serrao welcomed the gathering and Fr Lancy Lewis rendered a vote of thanks. Brothers Clifford and Elston compered the event in a unique style.
