Mangaluru, Dec 13: The BJP-led state government has completely neglected fishermen of the district and coastal region in general, alleged former MLC and Congress leader Ivan D'Souza.

He was addressing a press meet in Congress Bhavan here on Tuesday, December 13.

Including the third phase of the extension of Mangaluru Fisheries port, diesel subsidies to fishermen and development of the fisheries port and fishermen of the district, several matters concerned have been completely neglected by this government, he said.

The state and union government had granted Rs 57.60 crores for the third phase of development of fisheries port as there were 1022 trawler and purse seine boats in the year 2009-10, he said.

As of now, there are over 1,400 purse seine and trawl boats in the fisheries port but they cannot be anchored in the port due to a lack of facilities.

So, the work of the third phase should be completed very soon, he demanded.

He also added that in coming elections people will vote Congress to power.
