Bantwal: Karnataka Lokayukta team pays surprise visit to taluk govt hospital

Bantwal, Dec 14: The team of Karnataka Lokayukta Mangaluru division under the leadership of its SP Laxmi Ganesh paid a surprise visit to Bantwal government hospital on Wednesday following complaints received at the taluk office that people have been facing difficulties in the hospital without a gynaecologist.

The team obtained details from people who had come for treatment about the service and facilities that are available in the hospital. The team came to know that there are three positions of gynaecologists, four positions of CMOs and a position of anaesthesia specialist that are vacant in the hospital.

Similarly there was only one X ray operator and at least another operator was needed. Some patients informed the Lokayuktha to increase the quantity of medicines. Between 200 and 250 patients visit the hospital every day. About 40 pregnant women per day visit it as well. The absence of a gynaecologist has caused a problem, said a pregnant women who had arrived for medical tests.

Lokayuktha expressed satisfaction regarding the hygiene in the hospital.

Lokayuktha SP said that a report will be submitted to the concerned senior department official and the government to take action regarding absence of gynaecologist and need of extra medicines etc.

Hospital medical officer Dr Pushpalatha provided the necessary details.

Lokayuktha DySP Cheluva Raj, inspector Amanulla, staff Mahesh, Rajappa, Vinayaka, driver Dundappa and Rajashekar were present.
