Kundapur, Oct 4: In a timely act of bravery, personnel of the coastal security police (KND) rescued two engineering students from Bengaluru who were on the verge of drowning at Maravanthe beach on Friday evening.

A group of five to six engineering students from Bengaluru had visited Maravanthe beach for leisure. Despite warnings prohibiting entry into the sea, two members of the group ventured too far into the water near the Maraswami Temple area and were caught in powerful waves.

KND personnel Nishanth and Vishnu, who were stationed nearby, immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the duo, risking their own lives. One of the students had reportedly been swept nearly 100 metres into the sea before being pulled to safety. Their swift and courageous action drew appreciation from those present at the scene.

Following the incident, coastal security police ASI Manjunath, personnel Savita and Raghavendra, Gangolli police station inspector Pawan Nayak, and highway patrol staff visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

It may be recalled that on September 7, three students from Bengaluru had drowned while playing in the sea at Charkikadu near Gopadi, while one survived. The latest incident, occurring just weeks later, has once again raised concerns over tourists ignoring safety warnings at local beaches despite repeated tragedies.

Also speed boats to be provided and entry fees to be charged for those who want safety dresses and cost of Speedr boats to be borne by the rescued. Good income of tourists charged 50rs in safe zone which can be created by laying barricades or nets to prevent them from getting pulled by waters or waves

Once again life jackets. It is not possible to have hundreds of lifeguards. Those who want to enter water, whether they are swimmers or not, should be made to hire & wear life jackets. Police & lifeguards should ensure total compliance.
