Mangaluru: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava’s WhatsApp hacked; fraudsters demand lacs from contacts

Mangaluru, Nov 18: Former MLA Mohiuddin Bava’s WhatsApp number was reportedly hacked on November 17 afternoon, with fraudsters using his profile to demand money — running into lacs — from several people in his contact list.

According to sources, journalists, police officers and others known to Bava received messages from his number asking for urgent financial help. The hackers reportedly sent a message reading, “I need your help,” prompting many recipients to assume Bava was in distress.

When some responded asking, “What happened, Bava?” the hackers sent elaborate stories in English, followed by a request to transfer money to a different UPI ID. They also demanded that the recipients send a screenshot after making the payment.

Shocked by the unusual request, several people called Bava directly to verify. The former MLA, taken aback, confirmed that his WhatsApp number had indeed been hacked.
