Three land records officials trapped by Lokayukta while accepting bribe from outsourced worker

Mangaluru, Nov 27: Three officials attached to the assistant director of land records offices in Ullal and Mangaluru taluk were trapped by the Lokayukta police on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribe amounts totalling Rs 30,000 from an outsourced employee.

According to a press release issued by the Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru division, the complainant is an outsourced worker with the UPOR office in Mangaluru. The officials had allegedly demanded bribes for preparing his pending salary bill and for issuing an order allowing him to continue in service on an outsourced basis.

The press note stated that Krishnamurthy, surveyor at the assistant director of land records office, Ullal, had initially demanded Rs 50,000. BK Raju, assistant director, land records, Mangaluru taluk, had allegedly sought Rs 10,000, and S Dhanashekar, survey supervisor at the same office, had demanded Rs 10,000.

On Wednesday, November 26, Krishnamurthy was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant. BK Raju and S Dhanashekar were trapped while receiving Rs 5,000 each.

All three have been taken into custody, and investigation is underway.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Kumarchandra, superintendent of police (in-charge), Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru division. The trap team comprised Dr Gana P Kumar, deputy superintendent of police, Mangaluru Lokayukta police station, Suresh Kumar P, inspectors Bharti J, Chandrashekhar K N, Ravi Pawar and Rajendra Naid M N.
