Mangaluru, Dec 3: “Tuluvas can adapt to any culture in any part of the world and still uphold their culture,” said forest and ecology minister, Ramanath Rai.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the office of Akhila Bharat Tulu Okkoota at Gandhinagar, Kavoor in city on Sunday, January 3.

“People from Tulunadu are skilled and known for entrepreneurship. Their entrepreneurship skills and efficiency are notable. Since they have a quality to adapt to any culture in any part of the world and still uphold their culture, they lead prosperous life all over the world,” Rai said.

MLA of Puttur constituency, Shakunthala Shetty unveiled the collection of Tulu poems, ‘Poka Kural’. Speaking on the occasion, she recalled her memories when she was a member of the Okkoota in 1980s. "If the Okkoota has reached such heights, it is because of the devotion and the hard work of the scholars and the leaders of Tulu community over the years.
Inclusion of Tulu in the eighth schedule of the constitution is the need of the hour. Irrespective of the political background, we need to work for it. It is better to be late than never.”

MLC Ivan D’Souza unveiled the souvenir of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba held in the city in November 2014. “I assure my support for the inclusion of Tulu language in the eighth schedule even though my mother tongue is Konkani. Tulu is a language which unites us. I have raised the issue in the legislative council. Tulu has not been included in the eighth schedule because of the rigidity of bureaucracy,” Ivan said.

President of Tulu Sahitya Academy Janaki Brahmavar, ex-mayor Mahabala Marla, president of the Okkoota Dharmapala Devediga, corporator Madhukiran were present on the occasion.
