Mangaluru, Jan 14: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, has issued order banning transportation of sand from other states through this district. This decision was taken as it was found that sand was being transported out of the state on the basis of fake documents.

During verification by the deputy director of mines and geology department and joint director of commercial taxes, it was found that licence pertaining to Nanded district in Maharashtra was obtained for sand transportation, and it was used to illegally transport sand from Dakshina Kannada district into Kerala.

The officials found that bills pertaining to Berhampur in Odisha were obtained and counterfeit seal of commercial taxes department was used to hoodwink the authorities and transport sand to other states from Dakshina Kannada.

Cases have been registered in Ullal police station against such vehicles as per rules. To stop recurrence of such tactics, the deputy commissioner issued orders banning transportation of sand from other states through the district with the aim of restricting illegal sand transportation on the basis of fake documents.
