Mangalore, Aug 18: The activists of North Block Congress staged protest against the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) for the delay in repairing the damaged city roads, on Monday August 18.

The protest was staged near the Mangala Hospital where the road is in deplorable condition. The protestors alleged that the municipal body has totally ignored the worsened roads. It has taken up concreting works creating traffic chaos in the city, they complained.

The city will be celebrating a number of feasts in the coming days during which religious processions will be taken out through the various streets. It would be difficult to undertake processions if the roads are not repaired at the earliest, they observed.

North Block Congress president Suresh Ballal, Youth Congress president Vishwasdas, MCC opposition party leader Harinath, former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, corporators Appi, Gretta Rebello, Ashok and others were present in the protest.

well some one has to take an initiative...we might have to support this cause without bias as this is the need of the hour for this " future IT / BT / god alone knows what city?? !!!!".... believe it or not even roads in Uganda, Africa have better roads round the year then why is it that people of Mangalore are being deprived of good roads? Also observed that there are a handful of protestors when it comes to demanding good roads / water etc. but when there is an issue in the city you will see hundreds of people with bricks , bats , slogans... India is certainly shining!!!!!

Shame on you dear protesters. You have ruled MCC Corporation from its inception and now suddendly it seems that you have got up for the road repair issue. Where is the road repair funds has been utilised, which is sanctined by the State government and the collection of taxes from the MCC. Forgive me to say, Corporators way of living becomes more and more luxurious than before.

You are the cause for BJP to come to power of your own mismanagement, careless attitude and you have taken Mangalore people for granted. Now next 5 years cooperate and support the democratically elected BJP. Also in this protest rally the fully strength of congress corporators are not visible

For a change, this a justifiable cause, that too from a political outfit. Congress may not have done anything different or better when they were in power for donkey's years at least now, let them do something meaningful. Roads in Mangalore are no better than ploughed fields in our villages - fit for plantation. Please repair the roads immediately, ban heavy traffic - specially the overloaded trucks.

Demand for a right cause at least when not in power! It is ironic to know that the roads are to be repaired for the religious festivals and not essential for the public use. Are we moving in the right direction? It is apparent, that our leaders play religious card in every action.

This is the first time that BJP govt. came into power in Mangalore MCC. Till now Congress was ruling the corporation, that time you didn't see the bad situation of the roads? During Congress rule there was no plan for correcting the bad roads and now why such protests? Congress should be responsible for such bad state of the NH and other roads.
