Bangalore, Aug 19: The State Government has decided to widen all state highways in the next five years.
Public Works Department Minister C M Udasi told reporters here on Friday that the state had 37,000 kms of state highways and all these roads would be widened to a minimum of seven meters in a phased manner over five years. The government was working out the cost to be involved and on the ways to mobilise resources. By the end of next week, a clear picture will emerge on the issue, the minister said.
The work on upgradation of 3,411 kms of state highways under Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project II (KSHIP-II) will start soon. The State Government would raise loans from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank for the purpose, Udasi said. He said that the government had released Rs 130 crore for the maintenance of roads in the state and the maintenance work would start once the rains stopped.
