Mangalore: BJP Activists Take Mayor to Task over Deplorable Roads

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (MM/CN)

Mangalore, Aug 19: One can recall that the police caned CPI (M) activists recently, after they protested before the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) building, against the anti-people stand of the municipal body. It is now the turn of BJP leaders to express their anguish over the MCC's inefficiency in meeting the basic needs of the people.

Some Hindu organizations staged a protest against the MCC for not repairing the over-bridge at Suratkal. Corporators belonging to the ruling BJP from the sixth ward, participated in the protest.

Interestingly, mayor Ganesh Hosabettu had no idea whether the over-bridge was under the jurisdiction of the MCC or PWD department. However, when the mayor tried to escape by misleading the protestors, they took him to task.

Knee-deep potholes have formed on the railway over-bridge linking Suratkal and Bajpe. School students and pedestrians fall victim to muck splashed by passing automobiles. However, the authorities have not taken any steps to repair the road, the protestors alleged.

A BJP activist also died a few days ago in an accident caused by the potholes. Members of women self-help groups also participated in the protest.
