Bantwal, Aug 22: A peson named Mohammed Shariff (50) from Puttur Darbe was crushed by a truck, in an accident that occurred on Thursday August 21 evening at Kalladka Melinepete on the national highway 48.
Shariff, who was returning after visiting a relative in his Maruti Omni vehicle along with his wife, had parked his vehicle in Kalladka town. He was walking back towards his vehicle after buying fish from across the road, when a truck ran him over. The tyres of the truck, which was going towards Mangalore from Puttur, moved on his body, causing instant death.
The spot from where fish vendors sell fish on the roadside at Kalladka is located at a dangerous bend of the highway from where a road deviates towards Vittal. Visibility at this point of the road is very poor.
