BJP in Karnataka: Hundred Not Out - And Counting

BJP in Karnataka: Hundred Not Out - And Counting
The Hindu

Bangalore, Sep 9: Karnataka's BJP government completes 100 days on Tuesday. And the occasion has given rise to the usual self-congratulatory statements, and noisy protests from the Opposition.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa says: "Once in 100 days the government will come out with a report to the people who are the real masters in democracy. The report card will have information about the actions taken by the government."

Among the actions that are unlikely to figure in that report is the winning over of independents and MLAs from both the Congress and the JD (S). Most of the new arrivals got cabinet berths.

If the Bharatiya Janata Party workers are upbeat about their party completing 100 days in power, the State Government officials are equally overwhelmed.

Call any civic official and he is busy making arrangements for the gala function organised by the Government to mark the 100 days in power. With Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa inaugurating a slew of infrastructure works, mostly executed by the BBMP and BDA, officials from these organisations are either preparing for the programme or getting work expedited by the contractors.

Though officials claim that the arrangements have not affected their work, it remains to be seen how the programme will actually benefit them.

Price for information

There is always a friendly exchange of information between reporters and police officers. There are times when such an exchange turns sour as this reporter found out recently.

The reporter during his routine check heard about plans of a Kannada organisation to ransack the building housing Central Government offices. The reporter passed on the information to a police officer, who made arrangements to foil the organisation’s plans. A few days later the reporter met the officer.

During the course of the conversation, the officer produced a cover containing cash.

“I am happy. Take this. This is the usual reward given to informants which is allotted by the Government.”

This reporter of course declined the offer and told the officer not to put a price to the information.

Early for Deepavali

Various government departments go on an overdrive to ensure that all is smooth during festivals. Every festival, the traffic police and the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation send press releases to media organisations about the arrangements made.

The KSRTC recently sent a press release to publicise the special transport arrangements made i.e. providing extra buses to meet the festival rush.

The heading indicated that the arrangements were for the Deepavali festival, while the release was issued just a few days ahead of the Gowri and Ganesha festivals.

It was, indeed, surprising to note that the bus service provider had made such elaborate arrangements for the supposed festival rush during end of October.

Or was it just a case of cut-copy-paste syndrome? May be the authorities will be able to throw some light on this enigma.

Well Mr. "Amjad" from Bangalore - nice try, but not good enough. it's rather surprising that you choose not to talk about the roads in your hometown. I''m also impressed by your vouching for the "strong" credentials of the Sangh Parivar A word of advice, Mr "Amjad"- there's obviously no shortage of people like you who fire their guns from others shoulders. You can't fool all the people all the time, though. The next time around, please try and use your own real name - you'll look a little less pathetic that way

congrats CM for the good work. I seriously appreciate your approach regarding many issues. Though many poeple personally hate you and your party ,thanks to the poison injected by the oppposition that the BJP is communal! I feel Muslims and christinas are safe under the BJP govt, because this party is driven by strong principles of sangh parivar . i being a muslim can vouch for that ,because factinism in the party isn't there beacuse sangh parivar has a control on all of them. This is seriously missing in other parties and we all know how badly the congress is affected by its internal factions. See the roads of mangalore, all are under repair now.See the patrolling by cops near masjids, churches, temples.I can't understand why my brothers fail to see all these developments under the BJP govt. I hope the editor apporves my post . Trust me i am a minority and still appreciate BJP.

We should appreciate the Government work since we have at least a single party ruling now. Some people always criticise BJP ,but they never vote for BJP. We need internal security at first priority, terrorism should be wiped out from India, as BJP the only party we hope to do this.

We have to realise & think before we Vote, what we have achieved from past 60 years of Congress Ruling. Do we have any great projects after we get independence??? Are we good & safe anywhere in our own country??? Do we have peace all over the country???

The Congress utilised us well as their votebank, but inturn it didn't give anything except making thier own belly's wider. We have examples like Dharam Singh, Mallikarjuna Kharge , Ramanaatha Rai & many more. No government can achieve anything within a span of 100 days, when a party faces equal number of opposition strength.

But BJP still made it efforts. If the opposition parties really interested in development they should motivate the government, instead they are always thinking of how to capture power & topple this government & even our educated people support them. Think...Think....Think....what we need.

Also everyone contributed for BJP's chaos like fertiliser problem, it's the responsibility of Governor as he was ruling before the government sowrn in & the central government will not cooperate in anything, also many more incidents fuelled by opposition parties to spoil the image of first ever BJP government in the state. But our people will not think, instead they blame BJP for everything. But for sure if the Congress joins hands with JD(S) to capture power in future, it will be wiped out from the state & JD(S) will remain in the state.

Yes bjp can clelebrate because they have done which no other govt. has done i.e. getting MLAs of opposition parites to their side. They have also successfully implemented their secret agenda of vandalizing the minorities. They have proved what they announced during the election campaign i.e. making Karnataka as Gujrat.

They have proved it just in 100 days. All this could happen so smoothly because there is no opposition party in karnataka. Such a useless and shameless opposition party. They deserve to be out of power for at least another 50 years.

Not only communal but the most corrupt government our state has ever had since 1956.The record of corruption and communalism of 100 days of this regime equals the record of 5 years of the previous regimes. One thing is for sure that this regime is not going to last long and soon after the Parliamentary elections due next year the government will collapse under its own weight .

Thank you Wilma for your sarcastic comment.I have listed only Yeddi's notorius achievements, this doesn't mean that he has not done any good work at all. What I mean is he hasn't done any good work which can be catogarised as his 'achievement'.You have asked proof for my listings, what proof you are expecting?

Emptying the coffer is his own statement on 5th Sptember, 'operation lotus'was a naked public mockery of democracy, transfer of officials was reported by Daiji a few days back. I have not produced anything from my pocket. Ofcourse, if you are a staunch BJP supporter, you cannot see anything and you may require proof for everything.God Bless.

Congratulations to BJP & Mr. Yeddurappa, i'm Christian, i'm not a politician nor belonging to any political party, but we have to realize, we shouldn't judge BJP on their 100days achievement, lets give them at least another 1 year, let them complete 5yrs in office, we don't want election every year. BJP has done few mistakes and also few good things in 100days, din't we give a chance to Congress for so many years and also Janatha dal, and we have seen what they had achieved and done to our state-they used us as Vote banks, they also purchased MLA's in Goa Assembly, they also played dirty politics. Lets give this Govt a fair go, let them finish 5 yrs in office, lets see, if not satisfied we can get rid off them in 5 yrs from now. In between this we have to face Loka Sabha elections to see and evaluvate our national politics, regardless of what happens, we should give a full mandate to a single party in Loka sabha elections and elect candidates on merits and not on party bases, that's why our country is suffering. Wake up fellows make a right choice in year 2009 Loka Sabha elections. God bless our state & Nation

To rule a state with so many religion, caste, economic problems is not easy for any governments and our C.M is no exception. But we see from this govt that they have to desire to do their job.But to please everybody is impossible.

However I am deadly against the govt. to now already boast over the 100 days mark. This is un-necessary and a waste of the tax-payers money which is very badly needed for developement of the state.

BJP has done good job in some places & doing good, but they should control some of their groups at first priority. BJP has the guts to develop the state as they have a vision. They have been forced to start a mission like "Operation Kamala". It's our fault at first , we should have given a clear mandate to them to rule, but due to the opposite parties back door business to topple the govt. they have been forced to do " Operation Kamala ". I pray to GOD that let BJP Govt. complete 5 yrs, we don't need election over election, we need developement & carrier oppurtunities, also we don't need a coalition Govt. as we saw status of coalition govts. at state as well as the present Congress led UPA Govt. I also suggest to Mr. Kumaraswamy to keep quiet, it is due to his (Father -son) misadventure our state has been forced to go for mid term polls , otherwise it would have been held together with general elections which might have saved crores of our money.

100 days achievement of BJP as follows:

    1. Trying & playing dirty game by snatching MLAs from Cong & JD.

     2. Given 500 licences for Liquor Bars.

    3. Udupi MLAs Raghupathi Bhat's wife murder mystry.

     4. Cabinet portfolios are given for those who supported BJP, no ministrial experience.

    5. Failed to nab / findout Bangalore Blasts culprits.

    6. Price increase of KSRTC. 7. No proper Budget.

    8. Showing true color by attacking minorities, especially Muslims / Christians.

    9. Finally I really want to SEE / wish that this GOVT.should fallout from its OWN reliable MLAs. My main point / doubt goes to Ananthkumar & Jagdish Shettar will destroy BJP as soon as possible. That is END OF BJP as soon as possible.

Some people here don't have any right to comment on the present BJP Govt. as their own community indulged in Anti national activities not only at some places but all over the country. Don't try to provocate Christians against Hindus. Both religions are following the same culture in every aspects in India except for their beliefs & they love each other leaving behind small incidents as both are responsible for that. So your objective won't work here, So think about your own community first before pointing fingers at others.

More destructive work is achieved than the constructive work. Many churches were destroyed, many were served with eviction notices. Many communities were devided on lines of religions. Many ethnic cleansing programmes haved been launched.

Radicals like VHP and BD are protected. Law enforcing authority was given to Bajrangis. Christian educational institutions were served with show cause notices. I have a list of achievements. Few are mentioned above. Stupid government with stupid politicians.

Nation comes first than religion, though I'm not a politician either nor a worker of BJP, but by reading newspapers from many years, i found myself true love in BJP, since they are the only one thinking of developement irrespective of their votebank, also they are the one & only one raising voice about terrorism.

I fully support the BJP-led Mr. B.S. Yediurappa regime to make karnataka a model state by developement & people should make a comparision of 60 yrs rulers & 5 year rulers..! Hope this comment doesn't make much nuisance to this editior to publish...

Yeddi is completing 100 days in office today. Congratulations Mr.Yeddi. Let me recollect your achievements in 100 days :

1.Operation “Lotus” – successful poaching of MLAs from opposition parties .

2.Emptying the state coffer as boasted by you as soon as you returned from USA , though you amended your statement later that treasury is not empty but there is no money for new projects.

3.Successfully burnt down a Church in Davanagere, arrested people who were converting Dalits, created feeling of terror in the minds of Christians and Christian institutes . You didn’t concentrate much on Muslims probably because you had finished the project even before coming to power or may be planning a big one in the near future.

4.Transfer of record breaking more than 1000 government officers even before completing 100 days in office, mainly based on caste considerations (58 IAS, 83 KAS, 45 IPS, 18 IFS, 416 inspectors, 128 DySPs, 171 sub-inspectors and 165 tax department officials) 5.Took for excursion over 100 near and dears to the Kannada convention in America by a private organization “AKKA” though a few are on their own expense.

6.Frequent pilgrimages to many temples, especially in DK district, may be to request deities to manage administration.

7.Successfully covered up the murder case of Padmapriya, tried to fool people that Raghupathi Bhat is innocent.

8.Decorated rowdy gang leaders with chairmanship of various authorities , example: Nagaraja Shetty

9.Overlooked the farmers’ problem of fertilizer shortage immediately after you came to power. With all these achievements, Mr.Yediyurappa declared on August 24th that 90 percent of the promises made by BJP in the election manifesto have been completed.Congratulations Mr.Yeddi.
