Udupi, Jan 23: The inaugural ceremony of the Muddana Sahityotsav and conferring of V M Inamdar Critics Award, was held on Wednesday January 21 at Muddana Mantapa of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College.
The event organized by MGM College was inaugurated by eminent Kannada litterateur and critic S R Vijayashankar, also the recipient of the award.
Vijayashankar, while delivering his lecture on ‘Literature and Life’, said that both literature and life are equally important. Mere information is not knowledge, he said.
Information serves as a means of gaining knowledge and one can understand culture only through language. Meanwhile, one can learn sensitivity only by expressing emotionally- packed sentences in a language, added Vijayashankar.
The V N Inamdar Critics Award was presented to eminent critic S R Vijayashankar for his book ‘Odanata’. MGM College principal Prof Jayaprakash Mavinakuli gave away the award.
MGM Pre-university College principal Prof Anusuya D Karkera was also present on the dais.
MGM College head of department of Kannada Dr H S Shivaswamy welcomed the gathering and delivered the introductory speech. Lecturer Katyayini proposed the vote of thanks.
MGM College Kannada lecturer Dr Vasant Kumar compered the programme.
