Bantwal: Rape Attempt Accused Held, Remanded to Judicial Custody

Bantwal, Feb 3: The policemen of Vittal police station in the taluk have arrested Shariff (26), a native of Manjanady near Mangalore, on the allegations of attempting to rape a girl who was going home after a school in Kanyana, through Kalenjimale sanctuary.

The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday January 31. When the youth tried to forcibly rape the girl at a lonely spot at Bollepade near Kulal Mankude, she raised an alarm. Some locals heard her pleas for help and came running. They caught hold of the accused and handed him over to the police.

The court here remanded him to 15 days' judicial custody.
