Kundapur: CM to Inaugurate All India Konkani Sahitya Sammelan on Feb 7

Kundapur, Feb 3:
The All India Konkani Sahitya Sammelan will be held on Saturday February 7 and Sunday February 8, with the objective of promoting Konkani literature and culture, besides nurturing the language with a history of 5,000 years, said Dr Shantaram, president, Sammelan welcome committee, and administrative officer of Manipal Academy of General Education.
 
Addressing media persons at a press conference on Sunday February 1, Dr Shantaram said that the Sammelan will serve as a milestone in the Konkani literary sphere.
 
Seminars will be held on Konkani literature and journalism, electronic media, and there will be a literary exchange on matters including developing of children’s literature. A poets’ session, discussions on influence of other languages in Konkani literature, students and children’s literary outlook, and other topics will be discussed, he added.
 
Jnanapeeth awardee Ravindra Kelekar will inaugurate the Sammelan on Saturday February 7.
 
Goan poet Ramesh Veluskar will preside over the programme.
 
Chief minister Dr B S Yeddyurappa will also grace the occasion while Goa chief minister Digambar Kamat will attend the valedictory ceremony on Sunday February 8. 
 
Sammelan chairman Gokuldas Prabhu talked of past Konkani Sammelans organized by the All India Konkani Parishat.
 
Convener U S Shenoy delivered the keynote address. 
 
Financial committee president Devdas Kamath, taluk panchayat president Ko Ramanand Kamath, and writer P Jayavant Pai, were present at the press conference.
