Mangalore, Feb 3: A state delegation of the Congress party headed by Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president RV Deshpande will visit Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency beginning on Wednesday February 4.

The delegation will also consist of leaders like Jalaja Nayak, Srinivas Prasad, Hanumanthappa, and Kumar Bangarappa who will camp in the district till Wednesday February 18.

Speaking to media persons, Ivan D’Souza, one of the spokespersons of the district Congress committee, said that public meetings and meetings of party workers would be held in various places in the district. “Various programmes will be held during their visit. We will also launch a membership registration campaign from February 18 to strengthen the party. According to the amendment made in section 5 of the All India Congress Constitution, membership may be obtained by paying Rs 3”, he informed.

He said that Congress wanted MP D V Sadananda Gowda to contest from Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency, but the BJP has admitted their defeat with his flight from the present constituency. Expressing confidence over winning the constituency in the election, D’Souza added that Gowda has cheated all the citizens of the region by not responding to the grievances of the people. In reply to a question, he said that the Congress would send a good parliamentarian from Mangalore constituency.

Alleging that the new voters list is imperfect, D’Souza added that about 51,000 new voters had been added and at the same time, nearly the same number of voters had been removed from the list. The party would take this seriously, he said.

Blaming the BJP for anti-social incidents in the district, he accused the ruling party of supporting Hindu vigilantes to create tension in the region.
