Mangalore: Murder Attempt Accused Remanded to Judicial Custody

Mangalore, Feb 4: Local residents Guru Prasad, Bharat and Harish, accused of assaulting Manjunath (27) with a sword on Sunday night near Car Street in the city, were arrested by the policemen of Bunder police station. On being produced in a court on Tuesday February 3, they were remanded to judicial custody.

Manjunath and his alleged assaulters are relatives.  Reportedly, Manjunath used to dominate others, claiming that he is the eldest in the family and threatening to beat up any one who disregards his seniority. Others had a grouse over him because of his one-upmanship. Manjunath has already been charged in a murder case and also in a case of assaulting a traffic policeman, which the three accused knew.

Pent up with the worry that Manjunath would thrash them on one or the other pretext, the threesome joined together and launched an assault on Manjunath with sword, reposing trust on the adage, 'offence is the best form of defence,' said Bunder police station inspector Umesh G Shet, who is investigating the case.
