Mangaluru, Mar 8: The long-awaited roof construction work at the service bus stand at State Bank has finally begun, bringing much-needed relief to passengers. This development comes after years of continuous inconvenience due to the lack of proper roofing, which had been a longstanding demand.
Of the six platforms at the bus stand, only three were covered with roofs, leaving the remaining three exposed to the elements. Construction work on the three incomplete platforms has now started, and the work is already underway. The new roofing will provide significant relief to passengers, protecting them from the scorching heat and the monsoon rains.

The service bus stand at State Bank has faced considerable challenges due to the lack of adequate facilities. Despite a planned renovation at a cost of Rs 4.2 crore, the work had remained incomplete for several years.
For years, passengers endured uncomfortable waiting conditions, especially on platforms without roof coverings, which made it difficult during both the monsoon and summer months. Many passengers resorted to using makeshift measures like umbrellas or towels to shield themselves from the harsh sun. Broken tiles further highlighted the incomplete and poor-quality construction.
Now, the commencement of roof construction has brought much-needed relief to the passengers.
