Uber launches operations in Mangaluru

Mumbai, Dec 18: After doubling its footprint in India over the past few months, Uber app-based taxi service on Thursday December 17 expanded its reach to four more cities, namely Mangaluru, Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur, taking the total to 26 cities in India.

Mangaluru is the third city in the state of Karnataka that Uber has launched its operations in.

The launch in the three cities in Rajasthan comes soon after Uber signed a MoU with the government of Rajasthan early in November, to provide 35,000 new entrepreneurship opportunities, contribute to technology-related skills training and smart cityinitiatives and a commitment to launch its ridesharing service in the state.

India, one of Uber’s global priority markets, is only a little over two years old and continues to be the largest geographic market, outside the United States. With over 250,000 driver-partners on its platform, Uber has already gained over 40% market share in India in this short period of time.

Bhavik Rathod, GM, Uber India, west and south, said, "We’re thrilled to launch operations in another city in Karnataka. We’ve been seeing a rise in demand by visitors and residents in Mangaluru for Uber and we look forward to giving them the Uber experience of a reliable, safe and affordable transportation option."

Since our launch in Jaipur in August 2014, we’ve got great feedback and support from our riders, with a growing demand in other cities. And we’re excited to give the people of Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur quality transportation and are looking forward to mobilize the skilled labour market by providing thousands of entrepreneurship opportunities on our platform."

Uber now operates in Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Mangaluru, Mumbai, Mysuru, Nagpur, Nashik, New Delhi, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Vadodara, and Visakhapatnam.

    A warm welcome to Uber !! I being a frequent traveller from Mumbai to Mangalore find these rickshaw/taxis monopoly with regard to overpricing really irritating.They eventually are destined to die a slow death with such an attitude and nobody is going to miss them, for sure !!!!

    Uber should start Rickshaw service as well.
    Becuase current rickshaw drivers are running under loss as per recent strick:
    They earn Rs.600 a day.out of that..
    Rs.200 they have to pay for Owner.
    Rs.200 they have to pay for petrol.
    Even they run on LPG or CNG.
    Rs.200 goes for they maintenance food daily wages.
    Uber can solve their problem for once and for all.

    It is a good news. But when can we expect to break the monopoly of Mangalore Airport taxis. These goondas loot the passengers by charging exorbitant amount, while you can travel by OLA or UBER for half of the fare. It looks like no one can control these Airport taxi monopoly. General public is helpless!

    WE HAD PAST EXPERIENCE OF KSRTC BUSES INTRODUCED AND DISCONTINUED AFTER BUS LOBBY PUTS PRESSURE WITH GIFTS.
    VOLVO IS RUNNING WITH HIGHER FARE.
    NEXT OLA HAS BECOME OLOLA.
    NOW UBER TURN YET TO BE SEEN.
    OUR POLITICIANS WILL NEVER ALLOW TO ENTER ANY CHEAPER SERVICE IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC EVEN WHEN PUBLIC ARE LOADED LIKE ANIMALS BUT THEY WILL SEE WHAT THEY GET FROM THEM.

    Uber,Welcome to Mangalore.But Have you got Guts to Face GOONDA Prepaid Taxiwalas at AIRPORT & Railway Station. Or You also Chicken Out at the last minute like OLA even after confirming booking leaving passengers High & dry.

    Warm welcome to Uber Taxi to Mangalore city.

    Monopoly of private taxis should be broken. This is another franchise after Ola. The general public will benefit out of the healthy competition.

    The state Transport Ministry should brainstorm and find a solution to the current Rickshaw operations. Rickshaw drivers (most)rip the passengers off by charging unreasonable fare. Better the Rickshaw service is completely outsourced whereby, the public could expect some relief.

    welcome Uber taxi,i have been using this service,in Bangalore,its cheap, economical,and reliable,within 5 minutes u book on apps,car is at your doorstep.cheaper then rickshaw meter charges.request mangaloreans,to try this cab,as its good for middle class people like me.
