Mangalore, May 20: “There is a need for an Anti Terror Squad (ATS) in the coastal district to tackle terrorism activities. The arrest of several accused in terrorism activities in the district emphasizes the need for such a cell”, said Gopal B Hosur, inspector general of police (IGP) on Thursday May 20.

Speaking at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) on ‘Coastal Security and Law and Order’, he said that following the arrests last year in relation to terrorist activities and the information on terrorism activities, the police department needs to curb such activities with special effort.

“So, the department should be provided with a cell which is trained for the purpose”, he added.

“The western range is very unique, where policing is difficult due to problems of naxalism, communal violence, and rowdism. But measures taken by the department have brought every thing under control”, said Hosur.

“The department has implemented law and order without any failure, and is helping the people to in live in peace”, he added.

Hosur gave a power point presentation during the programme about the police department, mainly the western range.

Shrinivas S Kamath, president of KCCI, welcomed all. G G Mohandas Prabhu, vice- president, introduced the speaker to the audience.
Honorary secretary Mohammad Ameen proposed the vote of thanks. Secretary Latha R Kini was also present.
