Mangalore: DNA Experts Arrive at Crash Site - Hunt on for Black Box

Mangalore, May 23 (PTI) : A team of experts arrived in Mangalore this morning from Hyderabad to conduct DNA tests to help in identification of bodies charred beyond recognition in the Air India Express plane crash. Some 115 bodies had been identified so far, Deputy Inspector General of Mangalore Gopal B Hosur said.

In the country's worst air disaster in a decade, 158 people died when the Mangalore-bound Boeing 737-800 flight from Dubai overshot the runway and burst into flames at the Bajpe airport here. Eight persons survived.

Bodies of all the victims were recovered last night. Relatives of those killed have gathered at Wenlock Hospital and are trying to identify their loved ones.

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Civil Aviation officials are at the crash site trying to recover the Cockpit Voice Recorder, commonly known as black box, as well as the Flight Data Recorder.

The analysis of the data from these equipment could give vital clues to the cause of the crash.

The team that arrived here yesterday, also undertook inspection of the runway at the Bajpe airport, sources said.

Its easy to Blame the government Noel... But we are acting as if this airport has never handled landings and take offs. The world does have table top airports and all pilots are made aware of the challenges in landing and take offs.
The airports old runway could easily handle the 737.. the new run way is longer so its not fair to blame the runway... the issue here is bringing the plan to a perfect halt using various methods (reverse thrust and brakes) but if all of this was tried and not worked it is just ill fated. There were only dis mishaps on this airport one in 80's and one now (do you still suspect the safety of the airport?). with all automation, the most important thing where the pilot has absolute control is landing and take offs.. so its not corrct to blame the runway...you cant extend runways because planes want to land mid path!

In all this i am deeply hurt by this tragedy.. its time we stop the change the government story... the government is not going to change cos MLR is a table top airport...WAKE UP!

Its a very sad news for all of us but i totally blame the mangalore goverment for this crash. all safety standards are ignored, that run way is a death runway. no matter how many time u might hv taken off or landed but no safety gadgets are available. this airport runway is totally made by bribing and the result is in front of all . mangalore goverment has played with so many peoples lives.

Let the goverment be changed. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3033/3063024300_12cdfe4c4b_o.jpg... kindly check the layout of the way this runway has been constructed. its very easy to blame the dead person ( thee pilot ) but whos to blame. in reality is the goverment not the pilot. or make the new airport as per new laws and international standards for the safety of all.

Being an ex Airforce Personnel I feel that the DGCA official will retreive the Black Box very easily as it is made and placed at indestructible place in the Cockpit of an Aircraft, and we can see the Cockpit of an ill fated Aircraft lying at the site.
The entire Nation and the world awaits its findings to fix some one or something which caused this catastrophy.
We hope the Union Government will sinceirly take stern action and immdiate remedial measure to avert future catastrophies of this nature.
