Udupi: Free medical camp for senior citizens held at Hiriadka

Udupi, Apr 19: A free medical camp was held at Hiriadka under the auspices of various organizations for senior citizens on April 14. Professor and HOD of community health nursing, MAHE, Manipal inaugurated the camp.

Sadananda Sherigar, president of Devadiga Samaja at Hiriadka Upa Sangh presided over the programme. The camp coordinator, Prof Raghavendra G from Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration compered the programme and Divakara Hiriadka, secretary of Kotnakatte Friends Circle welcomed the dignitaries.

The camp was organized under the support and guidance of Dr Judith A Naronha - HOI of the college of Nursing and Dr Chef K Thirugnanasambantham principal, Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration (WGSHA). Jointly organised by Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, Udupi Senior Citizens Association, Udupi, Rotary Club Manipal Town, Hiriadka Upa Sangha of Karnataka Rajya Devadigara Sangha Mangaluru, Udupi District Mogaveera Yuva Sangha - Hiriadka Branch, Bunts Sangha, Kotnakatte Friends Circle, Navyodaya Friends Club. Ashwini K, Poojashree, Sudhindra Nayak, Shiv Sherigar, Shekhar Devadiga, and Srinivasa Rao contributed to the programme.

President of Rotary Club Manipal Town Rtn Nityananda Nayak, president of Bunts Sangha Nitish Kumar Shetty, president of Mogaveera Youth Organization Hiriadka Mahesh Putran, president of Kotnakatte Friends Circle Sathyaprasad, president of Navyodaya Friends Club Narasimha Kamath, Community Health Specialist of Kasturba Hospital Dr Gahan A Jois, and representatives of Udupi Senior Citizens Association were present.

Dr Shasidhara Y N wished that medical examination and treatment should be made easy for the people in every village to increase the health level of the senior citizens. He added that Raghavendra G is organizing such programmes as a part of research on the effectiveness of the Gerontechnology Empowerment Program (GEP) on awareness and usage of mobile applications among senior citizens for instrumental activities of daily living. This will help the senior citizens’ quality of life in the future.
