Bangalore, Sep 5: The Supreme Court (SC) slammed the union and state governments for permitting mining in the reserve forests of Bellary. The SC was responding to an appeal against mining in the national reserve at Sandur.

The divisional bench headed by Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice Mohan Shantanagowdar, ordered the government to submit before the court all records related to the matter. The bench opined that by allowing mining in the reserve forest, the governments had allowed the plunder of national resources.
The bench questioned as to what would be left of the environment for future generations if deforestation by mining was allowed to continue. The judges reprimanded the authorities for their lack of judgement in the matter.
